Target: WCAG 2.2 AA
Accessibility
Accessibility is built into the templates and research views before public launch, with progressive enhancement for maps, timelines, and filtering.
Release commitments
- Logical headings, landmarks, skip navigation, labeled controls, and keyboard operation.
- Visible focus, text-based status labels, high contrast, and no color-only meaning.
- Reflow at narrow widths and 200% zoom without trapping essential content in horizontal layouts.
- Purposeful alternative text and selectable captions and credits for displayed images.
- A complete text place index for map data and reduced-motion support.
Before launch
Automated checks are not enough.
The production site will still need keyboard testing, screen-reader review, zoom and reflow checks, contrast verification, browser and device testing, and a documented way to report an access barrier.
