Identity and chronology

A contemporary Tulsa World notice establishes that the Tulsa Community Band was newly formed in 1967 under Tulsa Park and Recreation Board sponsorship and gave its first concert on July 13, 1967, at Whiteside Recreation Center.

Leadership

A. J. McNaughton was the first documented director. Newspaper coverage identifies Dwight Dailey as conductor in the later 1980s and early 1990s; a complete succession is not necessary to state the verified origin.

Sponsorship and participation

The founding sponsor was the Tulsa Park and Recreation Board. Later evidence describes an open, volunteer adult community ensemble drawing players from Tulsa and surrounding communities.

Activity
