Image use
A downloadable image is not automatically reusable, and the project’s noncommercial character does not replace an institution’s item-level conditions.
Five controlled states
Written permission obtained
An image may appear only within the documented scope and with the organization’s current online attribution requirements.
Permission or confirmation required
The actual image is withheld. A neutral placeholder may describe the known item.
No exact image selected
The page uses a typographic record panel instead of an unrelated or decorative photograph.
Use undetermined
Copyright, provenance, or authority conflicts keep the asset out of public display.

Fifteen cleared photographs and 134 newspaper evidence images are in use.
Seven photographs rely on verified no-contact reuse terms from the National Archives or Library of Congress. Eight rely on written permission and the source organization’s current online attribution requirements. The 134 newspaper clippings or pages were published before 1923 and are presented separately as public-domain evidence images with publication, date, page, Oklahoma Digital Newspaper Program, Oklahoma Historical Society, and Gateway credit. They are never labeled as standalone photographs of a band unless the page itself contains one.
Image treatment
- Originals remain separate from display derivatives, with checksums and retrieval records.
- Captions, credits, dates, repositories, identifiers, and rights notes remain selectable text.
- No false color, invented detail, generative restoration, decorative sepia, or aggressive sharpening.
- Low-resolution but important images appear at an honest size with a visible limitation.
- Newspaper evidence opens at full resolution and remains visually distinct from archival photographs.
