History
Identity and chronology
The University of Tulsa documents a current program including the Sound of the Golden Hurricane marching and athletic bands, Wind Ensemble, jazz ensembles, percussion ensemble, and steel band. Newspaper evidence securely documents the “Sound of the Golden Hurricane” name by 1989 and TU Wind and Jazz ensembles by the early 1990s.
Leadership
Andrew Anderson was identified as director of bands in TU’s 2022 band update. A complete succession and the Henry Kendall College-era leadership remain unresolved.
Sponsorship and participation
These are institutional University of Tulsa ensembles. The institution traces its own line from the Presbyterian School for Indian Girls to Henry Kendall College, which moved to Tulsa in 1907, and to the University of Tulsa charter approved in 1920.
