What the evidence supports

Official Philharmonic history dates the first concert to May 21, 1924 at Shrine Temple, with 54 volunteer players under Frederick Holmberg; the orchestra ceased in spring 1931.

Limits and open questions

Separate early organization from the 1937 federal orchestra. Political explanation on the history page is qualified hearsay and not promoted to settled causation.
